Customers often ask me: "How do I know when it's time to replace my shingles & what is the best type of shingle?"
Top 5 Indicators that your shingles need to be replacement.
Curling is only good for hair or Canadians: if you have friendly neighbors or a backyard/front yard that lends to some depth - go as far back as possible and look at your roof. Are the shingle flat or are they curling? What does it mean if they are? Dryness & shrinking. It means they are brittle and at the end of their life span. If they are curling up - you need to start considering replacing them.
Valleys - not the environmental ones: Valleys are one of the most important areas of your roof. Snow and rain flow along the valleys and into gutters. If the valley is damaged you could be susceptible to roof leaks at these spots.
Something's missing: Notice some patch work on the top of your roof? Some shingles here, some on the front lawn? Not good. If you notice missing shingles - it means they are brittle, old and jumping ship which indicates you need to get on board, and replace those shingles.
The gutter: not the place for your mind OR shingle residue. See bits and pieces of shingles hanging around in the gutters? That means they're falling apart and ready to be replaced.
Bossy Moss & Annoying Algae - especially in humid weather - not as common in Ontario - but still possible. It might look rustic and pretty - but it won't be pretty when you have waited too long to call us !
